MIRI: The ‘Dayak-Iban Cultural Carnival’ which was initially scheduled for May 23 is postponed to June 27 due to unforeseen circumstances.
The carnival is initiated by Dayak Association Miri (DAM) to promote and preserve Iban culture especially their traditional costumes, music and dances.According to the organising spokesman Wilfred Mac who is DAM deputy president, the carnival would serve as an eye opener for the younger generations of the Dayak-Iban community and help to promote Miri to the outside world through their cultural activities.
Their participation in the carnival would foster closer relationship between the Dayaks and other races, he added.Wilfred said many interesting activities had been lined up to make the event interesting. They included Ngajat’ ‘Beranyam’ (weaving), ‘Nyumpit’ (blowpipe for men and women), ‘Betabuh’ (gong beating), ‘Kuntau’, ‘Gendang Pampat’ and cooking demonstration.
“Attractive prizes await winners in each category, soGET your entry forms now and complete them. The forms are available at DAM office at Jalan Merpati here.”
All completed entry forms should reach the organiser by June 20.
Alternatively, call DAM office at 085-435467 (office hours), Jacqueline Selaka (016-8786205) or Julia Jugak (010-7674058).
